Overnight

So you’re tired or your’re broken.
So you’re lonely or you’re lost.
I’ve been there.
Isn’t heartbreak over in Wingfield park, by the river?
Isn’t hard up for under the freeway behind the Barnes and Noble?
I know for certain that no friends to speak of is up past Damonte Ranch High School, where the sidewalk ends.
These places have a gravity their own.
Because when you’re there, they’re your whole world.
They weigh heavy on you.
It can be hard to leave on your own,
but you are not alone!
You’ve got Griffin.
You’ll find me eating apple cores over at just getting by. You know, over on Court Street?
I’ll be eating up the apple cores, the banana peels, and the orange rinds.
Because someone took the best of them, and left the rest behind.
That’s why I’m there for you.
Because I’m half-used, like them.
And I’ll never be the man who left you wanting,
When you held out your hand.
So when you need deliverance, my dear friend,
Remember that this postal service,
Requires no stamp.
Do you know the credo?
Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.
So count on me.
I know the emotional road-map like an old postman.
Call these words your tracking number.
You’ll not be lost, or dropped, or cancelled.
You’ve got Griffin.
Guaranteed to arrive by morning.
